Simplify HMI designs using prototype-ready LCD modules

The devices from Serious Integrated, powered by Renesas Synergy S7G2 MCUs, claims to ease the design of rich GUIs for the control panels of electronic systems.

Serious Integrated has released the first device under its line-up of LCD modules powered by Renesas Synergy S7G2 MCUs. The 24bit colour display module features a resolution of 480pixels x 272pixels and promises to deliver ambient light sensing and on-module memory extensions to ease the design of rich GUIs for the control panels of electronic systems.

Serious Integrated Modules (SIMs) are off-the-shelf production-worthy, prototype-ready graphic/touch front panels supported by the Serious Human Interface Platform (SHIP) GUI development and deployment software, indicated the company. OEMs can now develop C-based human machine interfaces that run on scalable Synergy MCUs.

The Renesas Synergy S7G2 MCU employed in the SIM243 is based on a 240MHz, 32bit ARM Cortex-M4 CPU core with 3Mbytes of flash memory, 640Kbytes of SRAM, and a TFT LCD controller with 2D drawing engine. The SIM243 module furnishes up to 16Mbtyes of SDRAM and up to 32Mbytes of serial flash memory.

High-speed UART, SPI and power connectivity is provided via a 16-pin wire-harness connector, while a 60-pin board-to-board connector enables I/O expansion using a custom daughtercard or one of the company's standard communication daughtercards.

A release date for the SIM243 was not available at the time of this announcement. A second product, the SIM543 7in TFT LCD module, is slated for release in 3Q16.
