GaAs-based RF module operates up to 20GHz

Analog Devices has introduced four new RF and microwave standard modules built on the company's monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs).

The HMC-C582 is a gallium arsenide (GaAs) MMIC, pseudomorphic high electron mobility transfer (pHEMT) power amplifier in a miniature, hermetic module with replaceable SMA connectors that operates between 0.01GHz and 20GHz. The amplifier provides typically 24dB of gain, up to 36dBm output IP3 and up to 26dBm of output power at 1dB gain compression.

Gain flatness is excellent from 0.01GHz to 20GHz, making the HMC-C582 ideal for electronic warfare (EW), electronic countermeasures (ECM), radar, fibre optic and test equipment applications. The wideband amplifier inputs/outputs (I/Os) are internally matched to 50Ω and are DC blocked. Integrated voltage regulators allow flexible biasing and sequencing control for robust operation.

The HMC-7891 is a limiting amplifier that operates over the band of 2GHz to 18GHz, with a high gain of 47dB. The amplifier provides a saturated output power of 13dBm over the input power range of −30dBm to 10dBm, for a limiting dynamic range of 40dB.

The amplifier can also be used as a frequency tripler due to the high third harmonic output level at saturation. An integrated voltage regulator provides the proper bias voltage, drawing 300mA from a single dc power supply of 8V ± 1V. The HMC7891 is packaged in a compact modular design with field replaceable SMA connectors.

The HMC-C584 is a 0.1GHz to 40GHz, 5-bit, gallium arsenide (GaAs) IC digital attenuator housed in a miniature hermetic module. This wideband attenuator features 7dB typical insertion loss, 43dBm input IP3 and bit values of 1dB (LSB), 2dB, 4dB, 8dB, and 16dB for a total attenuation range of 31dB. The attenuation accuracy of the device has a ±1.0dB typical step error. Five control voltage inputs, toggled between 0V and 5V, are used to select each attenuation state. Removable K-type connectors can be detached to allow direct connection of the input/output pins of the module to a microstrip or coplanar circuit.

The HMC-C583 is a 0.1GHz to 40GHz, gallium arsenide (GaAs), pseudomorphic high electron mobility transfer (pHEMT), IC single-pole, single-throw (SPST) switch housed in a miniature hermetic module. This wideband switch features 7dB typical insertion loss, 50dB typical isolation and 40dBm input IP3.

The switching on/off time is 10 ns typical. A single control voltage input, toggled between 0V and 5V, selects the switch state. Removable K-type connectors can be detached to allow direct connection of the input/output pins of the module to a microstrip or coplanar circuit.
