The distributor announced that Xilinx’s products along with its technical expertise will help develop M2M, automation, data centre and other segments. We asked Excelpoint to talk about the India opportunity.

Singapore-based distributor and design-service and EMS provider, Excelpoint Technology Ltd has said it sees huge business potential in India. The company claims that it is one of the few Singapore companies that have "really expanded" their footprint in India.

Excelpoint recently took on distributorship of Xilinx’s products in India and announced that the combination of Xilinx's "all-programmable" FPGAs, SoCs, MPSoCs and 3D ICs and Excelpoint's technical expertise, presence and networks will allow development in machine-to-machine connectivity, security and surveillance, factory automation, wireless communications and data centres.

In the same announcement, Gianluca Gilardi, Director, Channel Sales EMEA at Xilinx, said they were looking at expanding into new segments in India, particularly with their new portfolio of "cost-optimised" product families.

A unique strategy for India

Operating in the country for over 10 years, the Excelpoint has 7 offices staffed with field applications experts and engineers. In an exclusive Q&A with EE Times India, the company said that they have plans in place to focus on new domains and invest in customer-centric and application-centric marketing strategies to cater to this growing market. They seek to provide value-added services, and on-boarding product lines like Xilinx for application in the IoT arena is just one tactical undertaking in a broader strategy.

"With India Government’s Make in India, Smart Cities and Digital India initiatives and various programmes, we see enormous activities, new start-ups, new projects and applications proliferating," said A.T. Srinath, Product Marketing Head at Excelpoint Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd (photo above). "Infrastructure projects are starting to pick up momentum, and we need to prepare early to capture the opportunities once they arise," he added.

Excelpoint is setting up an FPGA Lab in India staffed with application engineers who will support customers with design. Srinath said, "We believe strongly in value-adding to our customers and assisting them in areas they need help in. Therefore, we are building our strength and expertise via these labs and resources, so that when the time comes, we will be able to service the customers immediately."
